Parent PLUS Loans
Parent PLUS Loans are available to parents of full or part-time dependent, undergraduate students. The parent, not the student, is responsible for repayment of these fixed rate loans. The loans have no aggregate limit, meaning a parent can borrow as much as needed to pay for their child’s college education less other financial aid received for the academic year.
Effective date for following benefits: Loans with a first disbursement on or after July 1, 2008 through the end of Academic Year 2009.
- Fixed interest rate of 8.25%* if the following benefit is earned:
- .25% interest rate reduction for direct payment (ACH).
- No income restrictions, no collateral requirements and no prepayment penalties!

Benefits granted on loans already disbursed are paid out of excess funds from financed bonds and are subject to change or elimination at any time based upon the availability of such funds. Benefits are payable as long as the loans are owned by MHESAC or a participating Montana's Choice lender.
Steps to a Montana’s Choice student loan:
- Complete your FAFSA
- Choose a Montana’s Choice Lender
- Make a note of the lender ID
- Follow your school’s financial aid instructions
